The Old Woman Who Really, Really Loved MyPillow

Very soon Donald Trump will be leaving the White House. One of the last things that happened at this point in his reign is that entrepreneur Mike Lindell, the creator of MyPillow, had a controversial visit with the President.

That’s a sentence that seems to come from beyond reality.

Lately I’ve been reading and listening to podcasts and videos about the man himself, Mike Lindell. Apparently he was a former cocaine addict who through the power of Christ got over his addiction and brought MyPillow to the world. While many have purchased MyPillow, there has been backlash over the pillow’s medical claims from none other than the Better Business Bureau. Even Anderson Cooper duked it out with the MyPillow guy.

Anyway, all of this news reminded me of a story. For about two and a half years I worked as a sales associate at a luggage and travel accessory store (I was pretty good at selling expensive luggage if I do say so myself). As you can imagine I meet all kinds of fascinating people (whether truly fascinating or just plain damn weird). One day an old woman came in and asked if we sold MyPillow. My co-worker and I said no diplomatically, that the only pillows we sold were travel neck pillows (since we were working in a luggage store!). Instead of simply saying thank you and moving on to the next store (there was actually a mattress store right next to us that might have been able to help her) this old woman went on a ten-minute rant about how amazing MyPillow was. She talked about how great she thought Mike Lindell was, and said that we too should start selling MyPillow.

Keep in mind again that we sold luggage, not pillows (aside from travel pillows).

There seem to be some businesses that develop a cult following. Apple is one such company (in fact I am writing this blog article on an Apple laptop) with people camping out to purchase their latest product. Movies, especially blockbuster films like those of Star Wars and Marvel, certainly have major cult following. While currently companies are dropping MyPillow from the products that they sell, I’m sure that there are still many people such as the random old lady who still love the product.

It also seems that people who deeply fall in love with a company and its products also fall in love with the founder of the company. People who are hardcore Apple fans also tend to love Steve Jobs (despite his many flaws, both as a manager and even as a father). Disney fans tend to admire Walt Disney. And apparently those still showing admiration for MyPillow tend to love Mike Lindell.

I kind of wonder where that old woman is now. Does she still admire Mike Lindell, despite his controversial meeting with the President? Does she still love MyPillow products? Is she a fan of the current President? Or has she stopped her love affair with MyPillow? Or was she simply just insane? I will probably never know.
