December Icebreakers

Image
I can't believe that it's already the first day of December. It seems like this past month has just flown by. November was pretty good for me. I spent Thanksgiving with my family, during which we ate fried chicken rather than turkey and played games (including Cards Against Humanity). Anyhow, I decided to begin this month on my blog with more icebreaker questions, this time holiday themed. These and more can be found online here . Question # 1 - Name a Christmas song that is for sure on your party playlist. Answer # 1 - Feliz Navidad. Question # 2 - What outdoor winter activity do you love? Answer # 2 - Hot tubbing! Question # 3 - What holiday would you add to the calendar and which holiday would you subtract? Answer # 3 - I would make July 20th, the day that people first landed on the Moon back in 1969, into a national holiday. I would eliminate Columbus Day. Question # 4 - If you were served a three-course meal, what would you want for each of those? ...

More Conversation Starters

I found some more conversation starters, this time via apartmentguide.com . Here are the questions and answers. Question # 1 - Would you rather travel into the past to meet your ancestors, or travel into the future to meet your grandchildren? Answer # 1 - I would rather go into the future to meet my grandchildren. Question # 2 - Would you rather be considered totally weird and awkward, or average with no unique or special qualities? Answer # 2 - I'd rather be totally weird and awkward with uniqueness and special qualities. Question # 3 - If you had to teach a class for a day, what subject would be natural for you? Answer # 3 - Film studies. Question # 4 - If you could change your age, what age would you rather be and why? Answer # 4 - Right now I am only thirty (will be thirty-one in a few weeks). I suppose if I had to change my age it would be somewhere in my early twenties. I've been told that I have barely aged within that timeframe (I guess I have good genes...

Bill Maher vs. Stan Lee

Image
For some reason I've never really been a fan of Bill Maher. I've never been exactly sure why; occasionally I agreed with an opinion of his. I have seen him do interviews with other people, although it's the people that he interviewed that interested me, not the man himself. But today I think I finally realized why I'm not really a fan of his. Bill Maher is an asshole. As I'm sure you all know by now, beloved comic book creator Stan Lee has died . And in a recent  post on his blog Bill Maher stated, "America is in mourning. Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess." He then goes on by saying, " twenty years or so ago, something happened – adults decided they didn’t have to give up kid stuff. And so they pretended comic books were actually sophisticated literature. And because America has over 4,500 colleges – which means we need more professors than we have smart people – some dumb people got...

November Conversation Starters

Image
I can't believe that it's already November. October just seemed to fly by. Anyway, for my first November blog article I decided to do more conversation starters. I found another website with questions. Here are a few. Question #1: Are you an optimist, a pessimist, or a realist? Answer #1: I think of myself ultimately as more of an optimist. I think I have moments of pessimism, or at least moments of disgust, and I can have moments of being a realist. Question #2: What do you wish your brain was better at doing? Answer #2: I wish I was better at learning another language. It's something I've tried multiple times but it's something I haven't been able to wrap my brain around (although I think I'm more than above average in my native language of English). Question #3: What's something you do the old-fashioned, non-tech way? Answer #3: Most of my reading is still done with paper books rather than electronically, at least when I'm...

Another Flag at Half Staff

Image
I'm just planning on writing a really, really short blog tonight. I'm sure that by now you're aware of the tragedy at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburg. I'm sure that there's a lot of things people are feeling right now. Sadness. Anger. Shock. The list could go on. While I was out on an errand for my day job I saw that the American flag was at half staff today. I then realized that this year, 2018, with all of the tragedies and shootings, that I've probably seen more American flags at half staff than I have ever seen in my entire life.

More Conversation Starter Answers

Last week I wrote a post about answers to conversation starters. This week I decided to go back to the same website and answer some more questions. Enjoy! Question # 1 - Where did you go last weekend? What did you do? Answer # 1 - I typically work on the actual weekends, due to the fact that my current job is in retail. My last day off was this past Tuesday. Along with seeing some friends in Seattle I watched a documentary in the theater called Free Solo , about a man who climbs a mountain called El Captain in Yosemite without any rope. Oddly enough the movie reminded me of that one scene in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier , in which Captain Kirk is also climbing El Captain with no rope. Question # 2 - If you opened up a business, what kind of business would it be? Answer # 2 - The answer depends really on how big a business we're talking about. If it were a moderately sized business then perhaps an indie bookstore, or an arthouse movie theater. If we're tal...

Conversation Starter Answers

Image
I try to write at least one blog article per week. My blog at this point doesn't really have much of a focus, or at least not one singular topic; typically I either write about past experiences or thoughts on films, books, or other pieces of pop culture I expose myself to. This week I decided to try something a little different. Oftentimes when I get together with my family we will answer conversation starter questions we find on our phones online. So for this blog article I will be answering a few conversation starter questions. They can all be found on  https://conversationstartersworld.com/250-conversation-starters/ . Question #1 - What was the last funny video you saw? Answer #1 - One of my favorite podcasts is Word Funk, which is basically just three friends discussing things and their take on them. In their latest episode they discuss the antics of Kanye West, Star Trek, James Bond, and more. Question # 2 - What was the last movie you watched? How was it? ...
