An Idea for Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino is planning on retiring from filmmaking after directing a total of ten films. Last year he directed his ninth film “One Upon a Time in Hollywood” (he counts the two “Kill Bill” movies as one). Apparently Tarantino wants to quit while he’s ahead, and while he may absolutely love directing, I’m sure it takes a lot out of him. While he plans on no longer directing films, he still plans on working by writing books and perhaps theatrical plays.

I do have a suggestion for him though.
There are plenty of filmmakers who, while they may mainly be known for directing fictional films, also direct documentaries. Martin Scorsese is mainly known for directing films like “Taxi Driver” and “The Departed.” But he’s also directed several documentaries (including multiple concert films) such as “The Last Waltz” and “Shine a Light.” Spike Lee is mostly known for films like “Do the Right Thing,” but has also directed documentaries such as “4 Little Girls.” Werner Herzog goes back and forth between directing fictional films and documentaries. Ava DuVernay has done the same, directing both “Selma” and the documentary “13th.”

I think Quentin Tarantino should try his hand at documentaries. Tarantino could still stop at ten fictional movies, and do a documentary that would be separate from that list. He’s directed episodes of television shows including “E.R.” and it obviously doesn’t affect his list.
Quentin Tarantino seems to be knowledgeable on multiple topics, ranging from movies (of course), music, history, and general pop culture. I think he’d have fun interviewing actors, writers, musicians, and anyone else he has a fascination with. He could also direct a concert film, filming one of the many singers and bands he peppers his soundtracks with. If nothing else, it would be something different for Tarantino to do, and maybe he could do a documentary that’s different from the average one.
I’m not sure if Quentin Tarantino would ever consider this. Quite likely he’ll truly stop at ten films and spend the rest of his life strictly writing. But if he did direct a documentary, I’d be sure to check it out.
